Shasta’s Story Round-Up: December 2016

Students and Shasta started off the holiday season just right by having snow much fun at UH’s 7th Winter Wonderland. Wherever you are this break, we hope you are staying warm and safe. Happy Holidays from the Lunar Cougar!

Warmest greetings from the Lunar Cougar! We hope you are having a very merry winter break so far. The University of Houston will be on break until January 2. Until then, stay safe and have a tree-mendous holiday season!

Kayla Stewart (’15)

Kayla Stewart (’15) received a Fulbright Scholarship to be a teaching assistant for 10th graders at a military boarding school in Indonesia for the 2016-2017 school year. Over the years, she has studied in Ghana, taught in Italy, worked for the Daily Cougar, interned at Houstonia Magazine, and was a research fellow at Upworthy.

Jennifer (’06) and Brian Royo (’06)

Jennifer (’06) and Brian Royo (’06) met while students on the University of Houston campus. He proposed at the A.D. Bruce Religion Center and a year later, they were married there. Once a construction management major who worked with a general contractor, Brian now has 17 of his own employees at No Label Brewery. It is only the third local brewery to open in Houston.

Philip Hays (’06)

Philip Hays (’06), an Houston-area actor and director, was recently named “Best Utility Player” by the Houston Press Theatre Awards. He recently returned to UH to direct a student production of Thornton Wilder’s classic play, “Our Town.” He is a company member of Horse Head Theatre Co., and the Houston Press named “The Whale; or, Moby Dick,” which he co-developed and starred in, Houston’s best new play of 2015.
